He was an able and energetic gentleman well known in office circles. Many people claimed, they knew that he was ably supported by his wife in all office matters.
Support received from family members can have a positive side. At times negative too. Since his wife was an employee of the income-tax department, in all income tax matters he had an added advantage. He will have clarifications received from his wife.
He considered his wife's advice last word in the matter. Since he had an expert's advice in such matters, very often arguments took place in the office. He vehemently opposed those who had a different view in the matter.
From past experience, many employees knew that it was a risky matter to differ with the 'tax officer' in the office. Those who opposed his view received notices from the tax department for payment of additional taxes. At times fine too.
His opponents spread news that even the local traders who did not give small favours to the couple had tax problems.
Even the customers who approached the office with various requests on tax matters had experienced difficulties. A college professor received a telephone call from the tax department why certain matters are dealt with in a particular way by his college office. He wondered how the tax department came to know of this. Then he remembered that only the other day, he had discussed the matter with his insurance office and with none else.
College professor promptly approached the insurance office. Next day, local head of the insurance office called the employee to ask him: "what has tax department to do with insurance matters?"
Nevertheless nobody dared to disagree with him in the office.

One day he forgot to take his wrist watch from the toilet. And he lost it there.
Next day there was a telephone call from his wife to the office. She asked the employee who lifted the receiver, "How things are being lost from office toilets. Is there nobody responsible to secure security in your office?" The employee turned to the officer. The 'tax officer' was busy making tax calculations....
